Solar feed-in tariffs (FiTs) are financial incentives governments or utilities offer to encourage the adoption of solar energy. In the Northern Territory (NT) of Australia, FiTs are available to residential and commercial customers who generate their solar power and feed excess electricity back into the grid.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Northern Territory (NT) FiT, customers must have a solar PV system installed by a licensed solar installer and meet certain technical requirements. The system must be grid-connected and have an approved net meter installed. The net meter measures the excess electricity generated by the solar panels fed back into the grid.
Customers who qualify for the NT FiT can receive payments for the excess electricity they generate and sell back to the grid.
Updates to the “Premium” Feed-in Tariff
Customers on the Premium feed-in tariff for four years or more will switch to the Standard feed-in tariff (9.13 cents per kilowatt hour inclusive of GST) as of July 1, 2022.
If you have been on the Premium feed-in tariff for less than four years, you will stay on your current feed-in tariff. However, after four years, you will no longer be eligible and will automatically be placed on the Standard feed-in tariff. A letter informing you of the date of the switch from Premium FiT to Standard FiT will be sent to you.
- The current Standard FiT is 9.33 cents per kilowatt hour.
- The current Residential Premium FiT is 29.21 cents per kilowatt hour.
- The current Business (less than 30kVA) Premium FiT is 30.90 cents per kilowatt hour.
